    I'd strongly recommend for not going for pillow top models from Stearns and Foster. I bought one on 2022 from Raymond's and Flanagan. My model is called Cassatt Lux Estate Plush Euro pillow top. The reason I recommended for everyone to not choose pillow top models is that, I can feel the micro coils when I lay on it. It has excellent support and softness level. It's a well built mattress but I think it's a mistake to lay mini coils so close to the surface like that. PS. My mattress has no sagging or indentation or deformation. Looks new like the day I purchased it. Thanks Good Bed for awesome reviews.

    How would the Costco BR Silver 14.5" Tight Top Plush compare to the BR PressureSmart 2.0 tight top plush? thx

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 20 годин тому

      Good question. So we generally don't cover Costco models, but just looking at the specs online, the BR Silver is going to have a fair bit more comfort material than the PressureSmart. However, the PressureSmart will have a slightly higher coil density. Basically, we'd expect the BR Silver to feel a bit softer at the surface but have a very similar feel once you get down to the coils. Here's a comparison of the two closest models in the Harmony Line: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=beautyrest-harmony-quilted-beachfront-bay-plush&mod=beautyrest-harmony-quilted-cypress-bay-plush-pillow-top

    Is there a difference between the B-Class and the Series One? Specifically looking at the extra firm version of both.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed День тому

      So there are going to be a few subtle differences there. First, there'll be a slightly different quilt with a different fabric. Second, the internal foam layers are similar, though they are arranged slightly differently and the Series 1 includes some upgraded foam densities. This will give the Series 1 a little less memory feel and a little more bounce. Third (and this is perhaps most noteworthy), the coil unit on the B-Class is a zoned unit with a reinforced center third, whereas the Series One is a uniform firmness throughout. On an extra firm model this is probably not going to be that noticeable however. Net, both are pretty similar. Hope that helps! Great question. The ProAdapt Firm has a bit less Tempur Material and will feel pretty firm. The LuxeAdapt has more Tempur Material but will actually feel slightly firmer but with more cushioning depth. The LuxeAdapt also adds a zoned transition layer for a bit of extra support in the hips. Do you really know what you will be signing up for if you buy a Nectar mattress, I bought one about 1 year ago and to say it has been a disappointment is an understatement this foam king size mattress has totally failed on both sides, and it has a crown in the middle and is horribly uncomfortable. The worst part however is finding someone who cares. I've sent over 20 pictures to Nectar and Amazon where I bought it, wrote several letters and all they tell me to do is take more scientific pictures with depth measurements and for the 7th time send them my proof of purchase receipt, 3 months this has gone on. Each time I get ahold of them they act like I'm someone different and make me jump through all these hoops all over again. My sincere advice to you is NEVER BUY A NECTOR PRODUCT ESSPECIALLY A MATTRESS!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 2 дні тому

      Hi Brent -- Sorry to hear about your experience. FWIW, while any problem with the product certainly falls to Nectar, the customer service on this is 100% the responsibility of the retailer. This is a big part of what Amazon is getting paid for when you purchase through them. So the run-around you're experiencing is really on their shoulders, not Nectar's. For future reference, while I purchase many things from Amazon, there are many much better sources from which I'd recommend purchasing a mattress. I hope that's helpful.

    Are you sure these are 1k count? it's hard to imagine squeezing 1000 coils in a foam encased design... Doesn't seem plausible in a queen config... unless of course the diameter was very small.. but that wouldn't make sense either..? I think BR800, BRS900 and PS2.0 (with 1000 series coil) are all around the 800 count range.. Older BR blacks are 815.. High end foam encased Airelooms are similar in the mid 800s.. Even BR themselves market it as "coil series" but never mention count. don't worry... Sealy is also guilty of this because they market the edge coils... Stearns doubling the intellcoils etc..

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 4 дні тому

      You're right to be a little bit skeptical here! With Beautyrest, these are actually coil *densities*, which are sometimes still reported as counts. Basically what this means is that the 1000 number would be accurate if instead of having a foam encasement there were coils that extended all the way to the edge (as per older constructions). This means that across the vast majority of the mattress (ie, the part you sleep on), you are still getting the benefit of that same 1000 count arrangement, however the actual total count is somewhat less than 1000 because the edge coils are replaced by the foam perimeter. Different brands may report this somewhat differently, so it can indeed get confusing. But from our perspective, it does make sense to show coil densities because 1) these are the coil numbers that are most commonly cited by brands that DO use foam encasement, and 2) they are the closest thing to an apples to apples comparison with coil numbers from other brands that do NOT use foam encasement. I hope that helps.

    • @jaszjsz
      @jaszjsz 4 дні тому

      @@goodbed I guess that makes sense.. but I rather have an accurate count.. The trouble is foam encasement vs Edge coil designs I suppose? I noticed the Englander site stating 789 coils for one of the designs, but also writing 1057 as total count on same bed. This is similar to what Sealy does for the Posturepedic plus line around "Satisified II" (1072 coils on Queen).. but CORE count is obviously less. In fact the Tempur/Sealy hospitality line markets Edge and Core coils separately on stuff like Gaffney used in hotels... (Internal metrics for those who care?) I guess I just hate the misleading aspect of it all.. Most Queens do indeed have around 800 "core count", though it goes off in multiple directions when marketing wants to argue advantages. So what is density? you can only go so small in a design without being detrimental based on AWG wire gauge.. I've always viewed this as "count", but with microcoils and intellcoils.. I guess the marketing is endless.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 4 дні тому

      @@jaszjsz You've nailed it. It's very very confusing and there's not a clear universal standard. We try to account for this in our own data, but it's tough to track down all of it. And on the 789 vs 1057 - I suspect those are actually two different coil units from Leggett and Platt. The 1057 is usually the Quantum Edge Elite and the 789 is usually the Quantum Edge with Caliber Edge Coils at the head and foot. It's complicated!

    • @jaszjsz
      @jaszjsz 4 дні тому

      @@goodbed Oh don't get me started.. Sherwood also uses "789" count + Quantum edge.. but doesn't have a second value. I asked them directly in an email, but I got the standard PR response and the guy didn't seem to know much. They sell an encase bed with 770 coils.. You can't tell me the Quantum edge model is only 789 total vs something like a Sealy posturepedic Plus. It insane to me because Sherwood does private label Sealy's themselves for box stores. Edit: Im proven wrong.. it really is 789.. the elite just adds header and footer coils..hence diff.

    • @jaszjsz

    What’s the best one for pressure relief? I have a lot of chronic pain. I have four auto immune diseases. I have systemic lupus, room with arthritis, Sjogren’s disease, and fibromyalgia. Right now I have a memory foam mattress, but I really want to get it right this time with my new mattress, we’re looking at the purple restore, but I just wonder if, I should go up to the more expensive mattress the ones above the restore.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 5 днів тому

      So this is a bit tricky. The Purple Gel Grid is a very unique material, and it's tough to predict how people will respond to it. That said, if your primary concern is pressure relief the Rejuvenate Line is probably going to be the best option, as these use soft and conforming foams above the Gel Grid to maximize pressure relief. I would think that the infrared material would be good for anyone! 🙂 I'm an older person, not an athlete, and I'm very interested in what benefits the celliant fabrics might have for me! I see a couple of other mattress companies using those types of fabric (going by different names, but they have the sleep recovery characteristics): Brooklyn Bedding's Spartan and several of Amerisleep's mattresses. Great reviews- thank you!

    I got a lot out of your review- thank you! I am deciding between the Aurora Lux and the Spartan (also by BB). I am thin (5'8", 120 lbs), somewhat arthritic, and am most interested in pressure relief for my shoulders and hips. I am pretty sure I want the soft versions of either mattress. How would you rate the Aurora Lux soft and the Aurora Lux PT soft for pressure relief? If you're familiar with the Spartan soft, would it offer more or less pressure relief than the Auroras? Thank you for your insights!

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 5 днів тому

      Hey there! This is a fantastic question and actually something we were discussing this week. The specs for these models are somewhat confusing online, and we pride ourselves on having the best information on these things. To answer your question, I'd generally expect the Auroras to be softer than the Spartans. The Spartan is listed as having less comfort material (though this was a relatively recent change, as it used to be identical to the Aurora). The Aurora Lux Soft and PT will both be quite soft, and the best choice there is likely going to be based on your preference for a smooth top vs a quilted cover. A quilted cover adds more foam, but the fabric itself tends to be a bit stiffer and this can sometimes add a bit of firmness too. So bottom line, the Aurora's are likely to be softer, but the regular Aurora vs the PT is largely going to come down to preference.

    Thanks for the video and the website write-up, Mike! I've watched and re-watched this a few times as we are making our decision on the right type BRB to buy. I noticed that the goodbed website notes the Series One Medium Pillow Top to be softer than the Series Two Medium Plllow Top. I was a bit confused by this since I thought the Series Two had the additional memory foam that gave it a more surface softness. Is it correct to assume that the Series One MPT would be softer in feel compared to the Series two MPT? Also, in your opinion, would the 2024 line be less prone to the sagging that seemed to be common on the b l c k lines? We tried the Series Four Medium PT And the Series Three Plush PT and found that the three had a bit too much cushioning depth while the Four felt better in terms of depth but could use a tiny bit more softness.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 5 днів тому

      Good eye. So we generally thought these models were pretty close in overall feel, but with slight differences created by adding more comfort material. Sometimes adding more material (even soft material) can add a paradoxical firmness to a mattress (and this is particularly so if the foams haven't fully broken-in as of yet). So we'd actually put the Series One MPT and the Series Two MPT as fairly close in overall firmness. And with regards to durability - we do think these are an improvement yes. Specifically, the new Black Line has increased the density of their polyfoams, added latex on many models, and has generally used a slightly thicker coil than the previous generation. All of these slight adjustments should improve durability. And here are both on our Compare Tool: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=beautyrest-black-series-1-medium-pillow-top&mod=beautyrest-black-series-2-medium-pillow-top

    Bought the regular Birch mattress partially based on this review, and I have to say after two nights I am immensely disappointed. The mattress has not expanded anything like how they show in the pictures or the various reviews, and frankly feels like sleeping on a spring-filled cardboard box. The latex layer adds zero plush feel. I'm just generally crestfallen that I bought into the hype. Will definitely be returning after the initial 30-day limit is up.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 6 днів тому

      Hey there! Great question. So the Soft and the Medium use the same foam, but the Soft version is convoluted (this means it's contoured like an egg crate foam). This process of convolution actually softens the foam by about 25-40% in our experience. The Firm version actually uses a firmer foam and will be a fair bit firmer still. Otherwise all of these use about an inch of upholstery under the quilt. Hope that helps!

    I have the ~10" Rest, full size, bought in March 2021. It was comfy at first. Within just under 2 years It started sagging (I'm ~240 though) noticeably in the middle. By 2.5 years the back pain started. By 3 years I think it is doing actual damage to my back. This is a 2-3 year mattress depending on size and number of people sleeping on it. A couple would probably wipe the thing out within a year. They're trash but can get you by in a pinch. Which is how I ended up with it. Was staying where only memory foam mattresses were available and they ROAST me alive all night so I can not sleep on one and I just HAD to get something else....this. These are only good for kids, emergencies, or some cabin in the woods where no one ever sleeps, but for what I paid ~$199, it served it's purpose well enough.

    @Goodbed Thank you for the video. I went to your Comparison Tool but the DLX Classic didn't come up. I also watched your review of the PressureSmart 1.0, which is my current mattress. How would you compare the two, for me? I'm a medium weight side sleeper, but I have lower lumbar disc issues, so I need more support than average. I typically do best by getting a firm or medium-firm mattress and putting a plush topper on top.

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 6 днів тому

      Hey Kevin! We'll take a look at the comparison tool today. Otherwise these are fairly different mattresses. The DLX Classic is a classic two-sided design with HD foams and minimal upholstery. The PressureSmart 1.0 is a one-sided design with non-HD foams and slightly more upholstery. Both could be good options for you, though I might lean towards recommending the DLX Classic in Medium (either 12" or 14") just because the foams there are true HD foams. And I'd expect the "Medium" to be close to medium-firm and would be likely to work well with your topper. Hope that helps!

      I wouldn't recommend that. However, adding plywood or a boardlike material *under* the mattress could firm the overall mattress up a bit and help you get by in the meanwhile. This bed sleeps *incredibly* hot. I'm a warm sleeper, and my previous mattress was very similar to this one, but I kept it for much longer than I should have and it got very saggy and didn't offer any support, so I bought this one. I never had the overheating on that mattress that I do with this mattress. I bought this one based on this video review and because it was a good kind of firm (I tried it in the store). The clerk assured me it had "cooling features" built in to the top layer when I told him I was concerned about sleeping hot. If it does, not only do they not work, they make it *actively warmer* rather than cooler. I wake up every night several times from heat, and when I move to another part of the mattress, the part I left stays warm for a long while. That was nearly $2,000 plus delivery and a box spring that I now have to have picked up and removed, and I have to find another mattress that works for someone who wants a firmer mattress that can also handle an overweight side-sleeper, which is difficult to find. The ones that seem to have those features like the Birch from Helix and the Avocado Green are both impossible to try in a store and very expensive (they also can't be used with a box spring so you are forced to buy their platforms, adding even more debt to the problem). Very disappointing all around, and an exhausting process.

    Do you know the exact differences in firmness and conforming between the Sealy Essentials Sudley 8.5 and the Autumn Ash 10.5? Do the springs have different levels of firmness or is only the thickness of the foam different? I have serious spinal cord compression and on my 8 inch foam I just sink near to the bottom making any body part I am laying on go numb. I need something that is giving enough to sink down for pressure relief to stop numbness on my shoulders and arms when side sleeping, and numbness on my upper back and shoulders when back sleeping. But also needs to be firm enough to not sink in too much. It seems a very difficult balance to figure out at 220lbs. I am concerned memory foam will make the numbness worse by conforming too tight. As you mentioned in another video it seems connected springs might more evenly distribute my 220lb weight. I appreciate any advice for choosing the right mattress to stop more serious nerve damage.

      Sorry we missed this question and we're sorry to hear that you've been suffering with this. In the case of the above models, there are very few details on these and we're not sure that either would be a very good option for you. It sounds like you need a lot more pressure relief and more conformance whilst maintaining firm underlying support. We'd probably recommend something like a memory foam mattress or even a Tempur-Pedic here. The memory foam will allow for more pressure relief and the firm underlying base foam should hold you in proper alignment. That said, it sounds like you do have some specific needs, so please feel free to reach out to us on the chat function on our website if we can be of further help here.

      @@goodbed Thank you so much for responding. You seem to have more Sealy expertise than anyone. I was able to try the Sealy Sudley in person finally a few days ago and it felt pretty close but was just a little too firm. Maybe if it sank in 1/8-1/4" more it would have been almost perfect. I am a side sleeper and need enough give to stop the numbness on my elbows, arms and shoulders. It seems springs would give more even support as you mentioned in other videos. I never had issues with numbness with spring mattresses. I have had nothing but trouble with memory foam always sinking in too much and it contouring too tight at 220lbs. I ask about the Autumn Ash because it seems very similar to the Sudley but with thicker foam, but still supportive springs. I tried several memory foams and they all felt like they contoured too closely and caused more numbness. It looks exactly like the Sealy Sudley diagram at 3:13 and you might be laying on the Sudley at 3:16? Do you know if there is any difference in coil gauge between the Sealy Sudley and Sealy Autumn Ash? Would the Autumn Ash have softer more giving springs or is the soft rating only referring to the extra foam thickness? Sorry for the long post but this is pretty serious having had recent surgery for Cervical Myelopathy. @@bmp713 So I'm looking at the Sudley on the Mattress Firm website, and I don't see much comfort material at all there. I'd be very concerned that this could cause tingling/numbness and/or could cut off circulation for folks that are susceptible to this. The Autumn Ash looks to use the same coil unit, but just has more comfort material up top. Truthfully, I'm not sure that either would be a good fit for you with what you're describing as these might break-in to have uncomfortable pressure points. Did anything else feel good to you in the store?

      @@goodbed I greatly appreciate your advice. Most of the mattresses I tried were either too firm causing more pressure, or the memory foam layer(s) sank in too much leaving a tight imprint around my arms, shoulders and back creating more pressure. At 220lbs and a side sleeper it seems almost all memory foam forms a tight imprint of my body rather than sinking down more evenly. It seems like I need something that sinks in more evenly spread over my body, not contouring tightly around the outline of my body. It seems springs are designed to do this more even sinking rather than tightly contouring. I don't know if different types of foam might sink more evenly such as poly foam. I also need a flat surface because the ridges on most mattresses also create more pressure points. It seems what would be best is some kind of spring mattress or non memory foam mattress that sinks in enough to relieve the numbness on the sides of my body, but does not contour tightly around my body creating more pressure. What kind of mattress would would sink in far enough to relieve pressure on my sides but more evenly than the memory foam that too tightly contours? What kind of spring mattress might have this more evenly distributed support? What kind of foam might have this more evenly distributed support?

    • @goodbed
      @goodbed 2 дні тому

      @@bmp713 Hmmm. So what I'm hearing is that you've had issues with some kinds of memory foam and some kinds of quilted top and textured surfaces. If that's the case, then you might look for smooth top "hybrid" mattresses with less memory foam (less than 1.5") or another specialty foam like a latex-like foam or latex. Off the top of my head, some of the Posturepedic Hybrids might be a good option? The Albany Posturepedic Plus and base Posturepedic hybrids both use 1.5" or less of memory foam. These also have smooth, untextured surfaces and should distribute weight well. As a way of double-checking myself, I made a quick list of models with smooth top surfaces and minimal memory foam using our search tools: www.goodbed.com/mattress-models/?surface-type=2&memory-feel=1

Choosing between series 2 medium pillow top or series 2 plush. we do not like the sinking in feeling of a mattress, but need the mattress to be soft enough for hips and shoulders for side sleeping. Hi Lee -- Thanks for your question. Glad to help. I'm not surprised the Series 3 Plush PT was too soft and deep, since it's at the far end of the spectrum for both of those characteristics. Also not too surprised that the Series 3 Medium was a little firm for your wife's hips, but I am a little surprised that this would be the case for the Series 4 Medium Summit PT. Might be worth giving that one another look. Looking at the other 3 you're considering, I think the Series 3 Medium PT looks like the best bet for you guys. It's got less cushioning depth than the ones you said were too deep, but enough to offer some conformance for a lighter side sleeper. Overall, it's pretty close to the Series 2 Medium PT in feel, but I think it will be a little better for your wife in terms of pressure relief and conformance. Relative to the Series 4 Medium Summit PT that you tried, it will have a little less softness, a little less cushioning depth, and a little less memory feel, but it should perform similarly in terms of pressure relief and spinal alignment. I think you might like looking at a side-by-side comparison between the 3 you're considering and 2 of the ones you tried (I had to leave off the Series 3 Medium since I can only show 5 at a time and that was the one that seemed like it was the least apt for you guys). The ones you tried are on the left and the ones you're considering are on the right. www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=beautyrest-black-series-3-plush-pillow-top&mod=beautyrest-black-series-4-medium-summit-pillow-top&mod=beautyrest-black-series-2-medium-pillow-top&mod=beautyrest-black-series-2-plush&mod=beautyrest-black-series-3-medium-pillow-top I hope that's helpful!

      Hi Angela -- I'm not quite sure what you're asking here, but a couple things to note here that might help clarify. First is that every manufacturer is different in how they evaluate softness, what they measure, and what they consider to be soft, firm, medium, etc. This is why we have a unified scale that we apply very consistently across all brands and products. Second is are you sure the S&F scale is the same as ours? On our scale, 9 is the softest and 1 is the firmest. I hope that's helpful.

    We bought an aireloom m2 luxury firm mattress and it has much too much conformance. We are small people and we sink deeply into the tufting, causing sore hips and lower back. Have only had it a month. Considering the lux estate pillow top firm. Was surprised by your answer below that it is a 5 on your scale and that the medium tight top and medium pillow top in the lux estate collection are a bit firmer at a 6 than the firm pillow top. We found them to be softer in the showroom. Can you please clarify? I’ve called Stearns and foster directly and they just read from the descriptions. Telling me that the lux estate pillow top is a 6-7. The estate pillow top firm is an 8 You have the best reviews I have seen.

      Hi Angela -- Thank you for your kind words! I think you may be getting confused by the numbers we provided. On our scale, a higher number means softer, with 9 being the softest, 1 being the firmest, and 5 being right smack in the middle. So if we said one mattress is a 6 and the other is a 5, that means the 6 is a little softer. I hope that's helpful. FWIW, if you're curious about why we do it this way, it's because "firmness" isn't really a design feature on any mattresses made in the past 30 years -- firmness is merely the lack of cushioning with the floor being the ultimate example of "firm". Thus rating mattresses on a "firmness scale" is backwards -- it would be like rating lightbulbs on a "darkness scale," where the highest rating is the darkest, and the lowest is the brightest. Unfortunately, a lot of fly-by-night mattress review websites have popped up in recent years and, in their lack of any expertise about mattresses, have adopted a "firmness" scale. This has added a lot of confusion to the market, and even caused some manufacturers to feel the need to fit their info to this backward scale. Hopefully as consumers get wiser, these sites will eventually go out of business, but until then we are left with this unfortunate confusion. Have a great day.

      Hi Angela -- I just looked at the 3 models you mentioned and we actually rate all 3 of them VERY similar on their softness levels. All 3 of them are a Medium, and when I look at the decimal points on our ratings (which we don't publish), they're even pretty close within the Medium classification. That said, we did find some differences between these 3 models on our Cushioning Depth scale (which some manufacturers, including the parent company of Stearns & Foster, conflate with softness). Cushioning Depth is what determines the amount of sinkage and conformance you get on the mattress, which CAN be related to the amount of pillowy softness a mattress has, but isn't always. (Think of an ultra firm Tempur-Pedic mattress that you eventually sink deeply into as a good example of how these characteristics can be very divergent.) The Firm EPT had the least amount of sinkage, which gave it the lowest cushioning depth rating. While the Medium EPT had the most sinkage and the most conformance, which gave it the highest cushioning depth. The Medium TT had more sinkage but less conformance, which put it in the middle. Here you can see a full side-by-side comparison of these three models: www.goodbed.com/compare/?mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-firm-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-euro-pillow-top&mod=stearns-foster-lux-estate-medium-tight-top I hope that's helpful.
